The Emma Goldman Papers Crowdfunding Project is an initiative by UC Berkeley to raise funds for the digitization and publication of the Emma Goldman Papers, a multi-volume documentary edition chronicling the life, activism, and writings of the radical anarchist Emma Goldman (1869–1940). The crowdfunding campaign supports key tasks such as transcription, annotation, editorial review, and digital platform enhancements that will improve accessibility for scholars, students, and the public. Goldman’s papers comprise letters, essays, speeches, and personal writings reflecting her advocacy for free speech, labor rights, women’s liberation, and social justice. By enabling open access to this rich primary source material, the project empowers deeper engagement with America’s radical political history and alternative intellectual traditions, which are often marginalized in mainstream narratives. The campaign leverages university crowdfunding to connect donors directly to scholarly publishing efforts, building interest in historical research within the broader community.
