Dear members of the ADE community,
Following the annual business meeting and virtual sessions that took place June 22–23, we would like to share some updates and words of congratulations.
Thank you to the following outgoing members of the ADE Council for their service: Dee Dee Baldwin (councilor-at-large, 2023–2026), Landon Elkind (treasurer), Andreas Meyris (secretary), Christopher Minty (director of publications), Lindsey Peterson (DEI officer), and Christy Regenhardt (past president, 2024–2025),
Congratulations to President-Elect Michael Cohen and the new members of the Council: Michael Becker (treasurer), Zoie Horecny (DEI officer), Neal Millikan (director of publications), Rachel Love Monroy (secretary), Lindsey R. Peterson (councilor-at-large, 2026–2029).
Thank you as well to continuing Council members Victoria Sciancalepore (councilor-at-large, 2024–2027) and Carolina Villaroel (councilor-at-large, 2025–2028).
Congratulations to Rachel Lane for her selection as the 2026 recipient of the Sharon Ritenour Stevens Prize and for her fascinating talk ““Traipsing Abroad”: Ethel Roosevelt Derby’s Service Overseas During World War I” on June 22.
Congratulations to Kate Bredeson as the recipient of the 2026 Lyman H. Butterfield Award in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to documentary publication, teaching, and service during her eleven-year editorial project, The Diaries of Judith Malina, Volumes 1–4, published by Northwestern University Press in 2026.
We would also like to thank the members of the ADE Semiquincentennial Committee—Michael Cohen, Katherine Sibley, and Kenya Dworkin y Méndez—for organizing and leading the virtual sessions on June 22–23 titled “The ADE and America 250: Three Centuries of American Documents.” Our thanks as well to all the presenters and everyone who attended. The virtual sessions provided an outstanding demonstration of the diversity of work being done by documentary editors and underlined the relevance of the ADE today and the impact and urgency of the scholarly efforts that the Association supports. We look forward to the launch of the virtual gallery that the Semiquincentennial Committee is creating at the ADE’s joint conference with the Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage Program in Houston in October.
Lastly, we are grateful to Noelle Baker, editor-in-chief, and the entire editorial staff of Scholarly Editing for their tireless work in producing a cutting-edge, world-class journal that consistently reflects extremely well on the ADE. We look forward to the upcoming publication of Volume 43.
Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to support the ADE over the past year, particularly during what has been a challenging time for many. We encourage everyone to stay connected and contribute to strengthening the ADE community over the coming year. If you would like to find ways to get more involved, please reach out to us.
Sincerely,
Clayton McCarl, president (2026–2027)
Kathryn Tomasek, past president (2025–2026)
