Echoes in the First Person

  1. Project
  2. Echoes in the First Person

Echoes in the First Person is a narrative documentary‑editing podcast that restores overlooked historical figures to the center of their own stories through first‑person performance, archival research, and cinematic sound design. Written and performed by Michael Washington Brown, the series blends documentary methodology with creative reconstruction, drawing on primary sources, historical scholarship, and contextual materials to build intimate, character‑driven monologues grounded in factual history.

Each episode is structured in two weekly arcs — a Monday Monologue that embodies the subject’s voice, and a Thursday Thread that expands the historical context, sources, and interpretive choices behind the narrative. The project aims to make underrepresented histories accessible to broad audiences while maintaining rigorous attention to accuracy, documentation, and editorial transparency.

Launched in 2025, the series continues to grow its archive, accompanied by a digital companion site that provides curated visuals, contextual essays, and a museum‑like extension of each episode’s research.
