Symposium On Students in Documentary Editing and Recovery Work
Call for Proposals | Virtual Symposium | April 16, 2027

The Association for Documentary Editing (documentaryediting.org) invites proposals for a virtual symposium on April 16, 2027, focused on student participation in scholarly editing, recovery, and other projects that make archival materials available and accessible.

We seek proposals from students and practitioners exploring how students contribute to editing and recovery projects, how these projects can be integrated into teaching and learning, and how collaborative editorial work shapes both student development and scholarly research. We welcome proposals from undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, project editors, supervisors, and editorial teams working in higher education and beyond, including high schools, community organizations, and other educational settings. Through this event, we hope to highlight the educational and scholarly contributions of students engaged in documentary editing and recovery work, while creating opportunities for students, educators, and practitioners to share ideas, build connections, and strengthen our community.

We welcome proposals representing a variety of projects, disciplines, professional roles, and career stages. Students may present independently or alongside faculty members and project collaborators.

Submission Information:

  • Individual Papers: Include a paper title, a 250-word abstract for a 15-minute presentation, and a 100-word biography for each presenter.
  • Panel of Papers: Submit a panel title and a 500-word proposal describing the panel as a whole, including its papers and their relationship to one another, along with a 100-word biography for each presenter.
