Edition Correspondence of Heinrich Bullinger is a digitized, text-critical scholarly edition of the unparalleled correspondence of Heinrich Bullinger (1504–1575), successor to Zwingli and a key Swiss Reformation figure. Hosted by the Institute for Swiss Reformation Studies at UZH, the edition includes high-quality transcriptions, critical annotations, and German-language summaries for each letter.
To improve accessibility across linguistic boundaries, the Bullinger Digital project has developed advanced workflows to support multilingual content digitization. Techniques include OCR processing for Latin and Early New High German (ENHG), correction of historical characters, and machine translation. The online interface allows users to view letters in original and translated formats, search metadata, and explore historical networks.
These collections open scholarly engagement with Reformation thought, ecclesiastical governance, and everyday life through Bullinger’s eyes—from theological debates to mundane details like weather or print production. The combination of scholarly apparatus and digital accessibility makes this one of the most ambitious and valuable early-modern correspondence projects available online.
