John Jay Papers

The Selected Papers of John Jay is a seven-volume scholarly edition of John Jay’s correspondence and writings, published by Columbia University Libraries. The project aims to provide a comprehensive selection of significant public and private documents written or received by Jay, a key figure in American history who served as a diplomat, the first Chief Justice of the United States, and a contributor to the Federalist Papers. The edition revises and completes work begun in the 1950s, offering new insights into Jay’s contributions to the founding of the United States. The digital archive provides access to images of these documents, facilitating research and study of Jay’s life and legacy.
