ADE Call for Council Nominations (2025)

[ A+ ] /[ A- ]

Dear Colleagues:

The Association for Documentary Editing (ADE) Nominating Committee requests advice, informal suggestions, and formal nominations of candidates for the following positions:

1) President-Elect (Three-Year Term): The president serves for one year as President-Elect (2025-2026), during which time they work with the current president and immediate past president while also serving as chair of the Program Committee for that year’s annual meeting. During the subsequent one-year presidential term (2026-2027), they work with the ADE Council to effect the organization’s goals and implement its long-range plan; they preside over monthly council meetings; they communicate with members through email and the organizational website; they assign tasks to committees; they appoint or confirm committee chairs and members; they maintain contact with the committees to ensure that the goals set for them are met in a timely manner; and they represent the ADE in dealing with outside individuals and organizations. At the annual meeting at the end of their one-year presidential term, the president presides over Council meetings and the business meeting, and presents a speech at the banquet. The candidate should be an experienced editing or recovery practitioner capable of managing these tasks in addition to their own work and personal responsibilities.

2) Councilor-at-Large (Three-Year Term):  A Councilor-at-Large serves for three years as one of three such persons with flexible advisory duties depending on the President’s and Council’s needs. This includes attending monthly council meetings to contribute to the discussion and voting on organizational matters. Additionally, as stated in the organization’s bylaws, “[e]ach councilor at-large will consult with the president to undertake an annual special project of benefit to the organization. These projects may include but are not limited to building external relationships with a given group, leading an ad hoc committee, investigating best practices of other organizations, etc.”

We strongly encourage nominations of individuals thinking expansively about the interdisciplinary fields of editing and recovery as it relates to advancing the ADE’s purpose of “support[ing], facilitat[ing], and promot[ing] the creation and use of edited texts and other acts of recovery through cooperation and exchange among those concerned with uncovering, contextualizing, sustaining, and preserving primary source materials, texts, and cultural artifacts.”

When making formal nominations, please confirm in advance the individual’s interest in fulfilling the term length and responsibilities of the given position. We also welcome self-nominations.

Should you have any questions about the open positions, suggestions of individuals, or formal nominations, please send them to the Nominating Committee Chair, Katie Blizzard (kal3aw@virginia.edu) by March 3, 2025. You may also message other members of the Nominating Committee with your questions or suggestions: Ondine Le Blanc, Max Matherne, Ellie Palazzolo, or Riley Sutherland.

Sincerely,

The ADE Nominating Committee
