Riley Ford Receives the 2025 Sharon Ritenour Stevens Prize
The Association for Documentary Editing (ADE) is delighted to announce that Riley Ford, a graduate student in history at Texas Christian University, has been awarded its sixth Sharon Ritenour Stevens Prize. Ms. Ford’s dissertation work bridges women’s history, military history, gender history, and the history of immigration.
The $1500 prize will assist her travel to the National Archives at College Park, Maryland, which holds military and civilian records essential for her work on the experiences of Japanese and Korean “war brides” as they undergo “Americanization” in the U.S. It also supports her travel to Madison, WI, June 20 – 22, to present her work to the group at its annual meeting. The prize also includes a year’s membership in ADE.
Awarded annually while funding lasts, the prize was established in 2019 with contributions by ADE members to assist scholars and editors whose work reflects that of the person in whose honor it was established. Sharon Ritenour Stevens (1950-2013) worked on the George C. Marshall Papers for 34 years and served ADE in a number of roles, including as Director of Publications, Secretary-Treasurer, and informal archivist. During her career she received many awards associated with documentary editing and was presented the Life Service Award by the Association for Documentary Editing in 2011.
The prize is managed by a committee of documentary editors and chaired by Carol DeBoer-Langworthy, a retired senior lecturer in nonfiction writing at Brown University.
The deadline for the 2026 competition is 1 November 2025. For more information, see
