Not at all! This conference seeks conversations on the recovery of racialized and marginalized voices. Recovery and its representation take many forms, and people who participate in this important work include educators, students, community groups, church members, families seeking ancestors, local genealogists, digital humanists, historians and other interdisciplinary academics, documentary editors, textual scholars, librarians, curators, and archivists. We welcome and encourage anyone who has an interest in any aspect of the conference program to attend.

No. Most sessions are open to the public, meaning that membership to the ADE is not required in order to register or attend. However, there are two sessions that will be limited to ADE members due to their focus on organizational governance and other membership or sponsorship needs. These sessions include the ADE Business Meeting, the ADE Awards and Prizes Ceremony.

The conference is hosted on a "Pay What You Can" basis:

• Standard: $20
• Student, Retired, Independent Scholars: $10
• Pay What You Can: We recognize that the past year has been financially difficult for many and welcome donations anywhere below $10. Any donations over $25 are also welcome and will be considered a Patron-level donation.

The program will be posted here and on the website as soon as it is finalized.

Some sessions will be recorded and published on the ADE Youtube channel. Whether or not a session will be recorded depends on the agreement of the panelists.

Registration provides access to the conference as a whole; there is no need to register for events on an individual basis.

Once registered, you can attend as few or as many events as you choose.

In an effort to encourage respectful and inclusive conversation on the primary social media for this conference—Zoom, YouTube, and Twitter—we are asking every conference registrant to read and sign a professional code of conduct. Any individual who fails to uphold this code of conduct will be warned by one of the conference moderators or program coordinators, and, if failing a change in their behavior, they will be blocked from attending the rest of the conference.

Conference moderators as well as program coordinators will be monitoring the public conversations on three primary social media for this conference—Zoom, YouTube, and Twitter—to ensure that participants are modeling respectful and inclusive behavior. Any individual who fails to uphold this code of conduct will be warned by one of the conference moderators or program coordinators, and, if failing a change in their behavior, they will be blocked from attending the rest of the conference.

We have also taken all available precautions to prevent outside actors from joining or otherwise harassing our Zoom conference presenters and attendees.

 

All you need is a computer, tablet, or phone, along with a reliable internet connection to access the conference. We encourage downloading the “Zoom Client for Meetings” (aka the Zoom application) before the conference to simplify the login process for any conference session, although this is not required. It is not necessary to have an account with Zoom or YouTube in order to access the livestream (through Zoom) or, where provided, recording (through YouTube) of a conference session. Attendees wishing to participate in conversations regarding a session after it has been livestreamed, however, may choose to comment on the recording of that session when posted to YouTube or on Twitter using the conference hashtag (#docedit21). In such cases, YouTube and Twitter will require an account in order to post a comment.
