Area of Specialization: ONE-YEAR APPOINTMENT as Assistant Editor of the U.S. Grant Papers Project (July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014)

Department Profile: The University Libraries provide their communities of users an ongoing, creative and technologically advanced library program.
Position Function: Provides innovative, dynamic, team-oriented responsibilities as Publications Editor (Assistant Editor of the U.S. Grant Papers Project).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Reports to and assists the Executive Director and Managing Editor and the Associate Editor of the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library with the following tasks: transcribes and edits correspondence and researches and writes annotations for publication of the U.S. Grant Memoirs and Grant Family Papers; plans, designs, reviews and coordinates volume layout and collaborates with the publisher and the library’s Digital Preservation and Access Unit on content and publication; organizes and maintains the files of correspondence and other materials of Ulysses S. Grant collected for the publication projects; helps maintain and updates the Ulysses S. Grant Association website; performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in History, Political Science or English; two years of editing experience, fluent ability with Word software, information technologies and other computer applications; knowledge of XML preferred; project management and supervisory experience; thorough knowledge of American History, especially the Civil War, Reconstruction and the Gilded Age and strong interpersonal communication, organizational and problem solving skills or any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education training approved by the Human Resources Department.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in History
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiation and follow-through skills; ability to analyze information and communicate that information effectively orally and in writing; ability to work harmoniously with colleagues as well as with faculty, staff and students in a busy, changing environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort: Some physical lifting of boxes and other materials.
