[ A+ ] /[ A- ]

The Office of the Historian at the U.S. Department of State offers unpaid internship opportunities during the fall and spring academic terms, as well as during the June-August summer period. These internships are governed by the Department of State’s student internship program and are available to graduate students and undergraduates who will have completed their sophomore year by the time their internship begins. Applications for the Spring 2019 term will be accepted starting in early May 2018 at https://careers.state.gov/intern/student-internships/. Interns contribute to a variety of ongoing programs and special initiatives such as research for papers and reports, collection of key diplomatic statistical data, editing, updating, and improving the HO website (https://history.state.gov/), social media postings, and archival research. Interns must be U.S. citizens and eligible to receive a security clearance. To be considered you must select “Bureau of Public Affairs” on the application, and then indicate “Office of the Historian” as your primary or secondary preference. For additional information about intern opportunities at the Office of the Historian, email history@state.gov. The Office of the Historian is located at the Department of State headquarters in Washington, DC.
