The Papers of James Madison at the University of Virginia invites applicants for the position of a faculty editor, at the assistant/associate editor rank.  Applicants should either have a doctoral degree or be on track to receive the doctorate by the time duties are commenced.  The doctoral degree should be in the field of the early American republic (ca. 1783-ca. 1830), with an emphasis on its political and constitutional history.  Preference may be given to applicants who have had previous experience working on a documentary editing project and who possess appropriate computer skills.  The appointment will begin as soon as the successful applicant and the project can agree on a mutually convenient date, preferably in the second half of 2018.  Applications will remain open until the position is filled.

To apply candidates must submit a Candidate Profile through Jobs@UVa (https://jobs.virginia.edu), search on posting number 0623096, and electronically submit a cover letter describing their expertise in the field of the early American republic, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references.  If possible, candidates can also submit samples of editorial work or other relevant historical scholarship.

Questions regarding the application process in Jobs@UVa should be directed to Stacy Diggs-Allen (sld4k@virginia.edu; phone 434-924-3569).

The university will perform background checks on new faculty hires prior to making a final offer of employment.
