2015 ADE Career Skills Workshop on Social Media

This workshop is a skill-building, career-enhancing exercise that looks at social media as a set of professional tools for the marketing of documentary editing projects. It surveys the fundamentals of marketing through social media and examines a variety of social media platforms. Documentary editors who participate will learn how to position and promote their projects online to reach and build their target audiences there. They will learn how to strategize use of social media, differentiate between platforms, secure accounts, create content, manage workflow, and track success. By mastering the methods of social media marketing, participants will be able to make the most of a ready collection of tools to heighten awareness of their projects, maintain interest in them, and expand support for them.
Workshop Overview:
I. Marketing fundamentals for social media
- Product, market positioning, target audience, tactics and strategies
- Hands on application: market positioning and target audience
II. Introduction to social media platforms
- Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Slideshare, YouTube
- Selecting names/URLs & securing platforms
- Purpose/audience for each
- Hands on application: writing social media posts
III. Workflow and tracking
- How to create a content calendar to simplify your posting of content online
- Simple steps to maximize advertising opportunities
- How to track your success
- Hands on application: 3 metrics to track for success
Participation in the workshop is limited to 20 people, with enrollment on a first-come, first‑served basis. Admission costs $30, which is due at the time of registration and is nonrefundable.
